The Friends

History of The Friends of B.F. Jones Memorial Library

A group of B.F. Jones Memorial Library supporters started their legacy of fundraising in 1982 by hosting a formal, black-tie dinner dance at the Library. That incarnation of the event continued into the early 1990s, and not only raised funds for the Library, but also highlighted to the surrounding communities that the Library was alive, well, and ready to serve its patrons. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, many members of the original group continued to host an annual fundraising event with varying themes, like the memorable “Phantom of the Opera” and “Homecoming.” The advent of the Library’s 75th Anniversary in 2004 included changes to the event that included the recognition of individuals who had had an impact on both the local communities and the Library. In the late 2000s, the group officially became The Friends of B.F. Jones Memorial Library. From this date forward, an annual event in early fall served as the main fundraiser for the newly-founded Friends, and continues to this day as the hallmark event “After Hours at the Library,” which is held annually at the beginning of each October.

The committee continues to develop, and is excited to embrace creativity in its fundraising efforts.
