Current & Recurring Projects
Throughout the year, the Friends of the B.F. Jones Memorial Library works towards the completion of projects, the hosting of events, and the curation of fundraisers for the benefit of the Library and its patrons.
There are several projects and programs that are funded by the Friends committee every year at the Library. These include an annual contribution to the Library’s general fund, hosting the Pirate Parrot during our Summer Reading Program, and the fan-favorite Polar Express Family Night each year in early December.
The Friends also contribute funds for the purchase of an outdoor Christmas tree, poinsettias for the Library’s desks, a catered holiday luncheon for the staff, and a gathering of both Friends and Library staff to decorate the Official BFJ Christmas Tree that stands in the area of the Main Circulation Desk each holiday season.
The San Rocco Foundation, whose mission to “keep traditions alive” closely reflects the mission of the Friends of B.F. Jones Memorial Library to maintain the Library’s legacy as a cornerstone of Aliquippa history, also receives a donation from the Friends committee each year.
Currently in progress are the purchase and installation of a new Thomas the Tank Engine-themed toy train table for the Children’s Department, a project that includes partnering with local photographer Emmanuel Panagiotakis for the restoration and resizing of five photographs of the Aliquippa area in the 1950s, and the funding of an upcoming tea-blending program as part of the One Book Beaver County event, which will welcome The Lost Apothecary author Sarah Penner to the CCBC Dome in June.
